River State PDP disagrees with APC over N9bn loan

The Peoples Democratic Party has disagreed with the All Progressives Congress over the approval by the Rivers State House of Assembly of a N9bn loan sought by Governor Nyesom Wike.
The state chapter of the APC had alleged that Wike was planning to use the loan to prosecute the July 30, 2016 legislative rerun election in favour of the PDP.
But the State PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, described the APC’s claim as mere propaganda.
The PDP said Wike had been spending funds accruing to the state on projects.
Nwanosike, who addressed journalists on Friday in Port Harcourt, explained that the state belonged to the PDP and the governor did not need N9bn to prosecute any election.
He recalled that Wike was one the few governors who had taken bailout, but had been able to carry out his responsibilities as a governor to the people through the provision of infrastructure.
Nwanosike said, “We are aware that even some APC members have agreed that the governor has started well in the provision of good roads. The N9bn is not for the rerun. The PDP is strong in Rivers State and does not need N9bn to prosecute the July 30 rerun.
“It is mere propaganda for anybody to say that the loan sought by the state governor is for election. We are ready for the election and the APC too should get ready and stop giving excuses.”
Nwanosike also kicked against the absence of representatives of the APC at the peace meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Port Harcourt.
He described the absence of the APC at the meeting as an indication that the opposition party was not ready for peace during the rerun.
