South African journalist sacked for calling President Zuma a 'zombie'

A popular South African radio presented has been fired by the Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), for calling President Jacob Zuma a "zombie" in a Facebook post, the privately owned News 24 site has reported. According to SABC spokesman, Kaizer Kganyago, he said OAP Ravi Govender's contract was terminated because of concerns that he had brought the public broadcaster into disrepute. Although, the Radio Lotus presenter had earlier apologized for the post that he said he had put up in anger after listening to a speech by the President at the governing African National Congress' (ANC) policy conference in the main city, Johannesburg,  on Friday “Just heard a Zombie Zuma giving a speech on the news. NDLEA secures conviction of 240 Illicit drug users

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), say it has secured the conviction of 240 suspected drug users in Kano State in the last six months. Mr. Hamza Umar, the Commandant of the agency told newsmen in Kano  on Tuesday  in commemoration of UN International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. He said the UN day, with the theme “Listen First’’, was marked globally on June 29. According to him, 768 suspects were arrested out of which 505 of them were counselled and 68 rehabilitated during the period. Umar explained that the 240 drug users were convicted and sentenced to various jail terms, while over 39.224 kilograms of different hard drugs including 6451.976 kilograms of cannabis were also seized. He added that among the illicit drugs seized were 327.15 kilograms of psychotropic substances, 358.3 kilograms of cocaine and 31.8 kilograms of methamphetamine. EFCC arraigns NECO director for N4m scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 arraigned one Muhammadu Umar before Justice M. T. Salihu of the Federal High Court, Maiduguri on a 3-count charge of fraud to the tune of N4million. Umar, an Assistant Director with the National Examination Council, NECO, allegedly approached the proprietor of Success Private School claiming that he had the instruction of his employer (NECO) to collect NECO SSCE registration fees of students in the school. Without doubt, the proprietor knowing that the money if not remitted could lead to non-participation of candidates from the school did as Umar requested. But Umar diverted the money to his personal use. After arraignment and deliberations on the bail application, Justice Salihu ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody pending hearing of the bail application on July 6, 2017.

I Want To Avenge My Brother’s Death; 21-Year-Old Man Arrested With Gun In Rivers.

A 21-year-old has been arrested with firearm by operatives of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria. He was nabbed around Rukpokwu axis, in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. The young man, who hails from Aguleri in Anambra State gave his name as Chineye Nzeche. Upon interrogation, the suspect said he bought the pistol to avenge the killing of his brother by gunmen he described as kidnappers. “I bought the gun because of the people that kidnapped and killed my brother. “I did not buy it to rob anybody. It is for revenge,” he reportedly said. Chineye has already been handed over to the Rivers State Police Command, through the Rumuokoro Police Divisional Headquarters.

Senator Shehu appeals - Please withdraw your case against President Buhari's health and pray for him

Senator Shehu Sani has appealed to those compelling the Nigerian Senate to set up medical panel over the state of President Buhari's health. Taking to his Facebook page on Sunday, the Kaduna Central senator urged them to withdraw the case and instead pray for the President to get strong and better. He wrote: ' My appeal to those who went to court to compel The Senate President to set up a medical panel over the health status of Mr. President to withdraw their case and rather join others in praying for our president.Pray for our President like the way you pray for your parents" President Buhari is presently in the UK where he's recuperating from an undisclosed illness. Many Nigerians are frustrated and are calling for his resignation as they believe he's too sick to govern the country. Just yesterday, the President's wife Mrs. Aisha Buhari left for London, to visit her husband.
