Suspect arrested for rape, murder keeps mum
A suspected serial rapist, identified only as Badoo, has refused to talk to policemen investigating him.
Our correspondent learnt that Badoo, who was arrested by the Ipakodo Police Division, Lagos State, on Sunday, had yet to disclose his real name to the police or write a statement.
PUNCH Metro had reported on Friday that residents of the Oke-Ota community, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, blocked the Ibeshe Road to protest against the rape and murder of a Ghanaian woman, Grace Obinna, by Badoo, penultimate Sunday.
Obinna, a 27-year-old teacher, who had a nine-month-old baby, was said to have been strangled by Badoo around 1am after he sneaked into her room and raped her.
Badoo, whose face was not initially known, had been declared wanted in Oke-Ota after the attack on Obinna, which prompted many women to flee their homes.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the residents caught Badoo in an abandoned building in the area on Sunday around 12pm.
The suspect was said to have been taken to a traditional ruler’s palace in the area, where he was handed over to the police at Ipakodo.
Residents, who spoke with PUNCH Metro, said the people were sure it wasBadoo as a 14-year-old girl, whom he had allegedly raped, also identified him after he was nabbed.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed that Badoo had not spoken to the police.
She said, “He has not made any confession. He has refused to talk. He is just calm in the station. The police also have yet to get his real name.”
