Italian court jails 3 members of a Nigerian crime gang for attempted murder, armed robbery and drug-dealing An Italian court yesterday, July 22, sentenced three members of a Nigerian crime gang in Palermo, Sicily, to prison for various crimes including attempted murder. Prosecutors said the three Nigerians brought to Palermo the practices of the "Black Axe" cult, which Nigerian police said carried out ritual murders, mutilation and rape in the early 1990s.  In Sicily, they used mafia techniques in carrying out attempted murder, armed robbery, bodily harm, prostitution, extortion and drug-dealing, and answered to Italy's most storied mafia organisation, the Cosa Nostra, as if they were its subjects, prosecutors said. Anambra markets raided over counterfeiting NO fewer than 100 shops were raided on Friday in various markets in Anambra State. This followed Anton Pillar Order granted to Pic-Ken Merchants Limited to search and seize its products allegedly being faked. Anton Pillar order is a court order that provides the right to search premises and seize evidence without prior warning in cases of alleged trademark, copyright or patent infringements. Addressing newsmen shortly after the raid in Awka, the state capital,   the media consultant to the company, Prince Ifeanyi Dike, said about six companies were discovered faking the company’s (Alteco super glue) product. Niger Delta crisis: Avengers are avenging nothing –Masari The Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari, has said that the Niger Delta Avengers are championing unreasonable course. He described members of the militant group as criminals who were avenging nothing. Masari, who spoke in an interview with journalists on Friday in Abuja, lamented the rot in the local government system and stressed the need to reform it. Fire razes inec office in Rivers THE office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State was on Friday gutted by fire. The incident, which happened eight days to the forthcoming legislatives rerun election, was said to have razed a major part of the office. Residents of the area said they woke up in morning only to find out that the INEC office in the area was on fire. One of the residents, who identified himself as Godwin, said though no strange movement was noticed in the night, the fire outbreak was shocking to everybody. “We woke up this morning and noticed a thick smoke where the INEC office is located. Some of us moved closer and saw that a large part of the INEC office had been burnt,” Godwin said.
